Booking ahead meant we walked straight past the ticket window queue, which looked about 15 minutes long on the Saturday we visited. The self-guided app was more detailed than I expected, easily worth downloading.
Good value if you just want the Palace without a tour attached. We spent about four hours total between the State Rooms and gardens and didn't feel rushed at any point.
Ticket worked exactly as described, mobile voucher scanned fine at the gate. Only note is that the Upstairs private apartments tour is a separate paid add-on, not included, which we didn't realize until we arrived.
